Hello Crafty Friends!
There’s something about a cornucopia that instantly says Thanksgiving, and I couldn’t resist filling mine with all the colors and goodness of the season. This card features an overflowing harvest of pumpkins, gourds, fruits, sunflowers, and autumn leaves, all tucked into a dimensional cornucopia. I added a bit of sparkle for that extra touch of holiday shine and paired it with a simple Happy Thanksgiving sentiment. And it’s an easel card!
To create this card, you will need the following from Kat Scrappiness:
-Gobble Gobble 6x6” Double Sided Premium Cardstock
-Kat’s Color Studio Premium White Cardstock
In addition, you will need the following:
-Paper cutter or trimmer
-Gold Glitter Cardstock
-Kraft colored cardstock
-Die Cutting machine
-Alcohol markers or your choice of coloring medium
-Black ink pad
-Stamping platform or stamping block
-Raffia (optional)
Ok, let’s make the card!
Step 1 – Card Base
Take an A2 side folding card base and score the top part of the card base at 2 1/8” and fold to create the easel.
Step 2 – Background panel and Gold glitter strip
Take the A2 Quilted Background Craft die and die cut using a white piece of card stock. Cut 2” from the top and 2” from the bottom.
Take the gold glitter cardstock and cut two thin strips.
Set all aside.
Step 3 – Pattern Paper and Another gold litter strip
Select a piece of pattern paper from the Gobble Gobble 6x6” Double Sided Premium Card Stock and cut 2” from the piece. I selected the one with the orange dots. (Note: I decided to add some light orange colored ink blending around this piece.)
Cut ¼” strip of gold glitter cardstock.
Set all aside.
Add glue behind the pattern paper and adhere that to the bottom of the inside of the card base.
Add glue onto the top of the pattern paper and adhere the glitter strip on top. Adding this strip on top of the pattern paper adds more height to give the easel something sturdier to lay up against.
Step 4 – Add the background panels
Add glue behind each of the background panels from Step 2 and adhere one at the top of the score fold and one at the bottom of the score fold. There will be a little gap so you can add the glitter strip next.
Step 5 – Add glitter strips
Apply glue above and below the score line and adhere the glitter strips. Trim off the excess.
Set the card base aside with something heavy on top so the glue has time to dry and adhere all the layers.
Step 6 – Cornucopia
Die cut all the dies included in the Cornucopia die set with Kat’s Color Studio Premium Cardstock in bright white except for the cornucopia and the cornucopia outer ring. Die cut those two pieces with Kraft colored cardstock.
Color them however you like using your favorite coloring medium. I used alcohol markers to color mine for this card.
When you are finished coloring them, go ahead and adhere them all together except for the leaves. I added some pieces of raffia in between in some spots just for some filler.
Step 7 – Adding the Cornucopia to the card
Add liquid adhesive behind the stuffed cornucopia but only on the bottom portion. Adhere that to the front of the card, centered, towards the bottom.
Now add the three leaves. Since you only added glue on the bottom, when you bend the card into the easel shape, the top part of the cornucopia is floating at the top.
Step 8 – Sentiment
Stamp the Happy Thanksgiving stamp from the Happy Fall Y’All Stamp set in black ink onto white cardstock.
Select one of the dies from the Scalloped Sentiment Strips Craft Dies and die cut the sentiment.
Add liquid adhesive behind the sentiment strip and adhere that to the inside of the card, below the gold glitter strip.
And that completes the card!
This was a fun card to put together. I’ve never created a cornucopia card so I was excited to try these dies.
