A Moo-nlit Message of Love!

The stars are shining, the moon is glowing, and this sweet Highland Cow is here to send a little love your way! Today’s card combines a peaceful nighttime scene with rolling hills, silhouetted trees, and a sky full of twinkling stars to create the perfect backdrop for the playful sentiment, “I’m Over The Moo-n for You!” With its cozy countryside feel and touch of whimsy, this card is perfect for celebrating someone special and reminding them just how much they mean to you.

To make this card, you will need the following products from Kat Scrappiness:

Highland Mini Moos Stamp Set

Sentiment Shoppe – Within The Fold: “Highland Mini Moos Sentiments” 6x6 Stamp Set

A2 Tree Line & Trees Craft Dies

Love You To The Moon and Back With 2 Moon Craft Dies

Silver Starlights – Sequins

White Crystal Dual Ended Embellishment Pick Up & Die Poker Tool

In addition, you will need the following products:

Die Cutting machine

Ink pads for coloring the night sky in colors green, purple, blue, black (and black also to stamp the cute cow) and gray inks for the moon  (Note:  I used Rangers Tim Holtz Distress Oxides for this card)

Ink blending brushes

White cardstock for card panel and hills/trees

Glitter cardstock (optional) in silver and green

Velum paper

Clear embossing ink pad such as Tsukineko Full-Size Versamark Clear Embossing Ink Pad

White embossing powder

Embossing Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder

Stamp position or stamping block such as Tonic Studios Acrylic Stamping Blocks

Liquid Adhesive

Glue dots (optional)

Coloring medium to color the cow – either alcohol markers or pencils

White splatter paint such as Spellbinders – Card Shoppe Essentials Collection – Watercolor – Splatter White Opaque

Small fan or paint brush to splatter the paint

Scissors

Ok, let’s get started!

Step #1 – Background

Trim a piece of cardstock to an A2 sized card panel (4 ¼” x 5 ½”).  You will need your ink blending brushes and your ink pads in colors green, blue, and purple.  Randomly, apply the green and purple with the blending brush in spots around your card, slightly overlapping the colors.  Doesn't have to be perfect as you cover most of it up with the blue ink next.  Just have fun playing around.

Next, take the blue ink and apply the blue ink all around the card and the green and purple spots.  You can go back in and add more of the green and purple to the spots if you want more of them to show more on the card.

Next, take your black ink pad and blending brush and ink blend around the edge of the card, lightly blending towards the center.  You can go all the way to the bottom, or just ¾ of the way down.  Set this aside so it can dry.  (Note: make a couple of these panels because no two are alike!)

Step #2 – Hills and Trees

Die cut two of the A2 Tree Line & Trees Craft Dies in white card stock and once in green glitter cardstock (Note:  If you prefer, you can die cut these in green cardstock and ink blend on top for color variation).

Take one of the tree lines you die cut, and trim off all of the trees.  Turn over the die cut so the backside is facing up and use a blending brush to ink blend from green ink pads.

Take the other tree line with the trees and ink blend the greens onto the front of the die cut.

Step #3 – Ink Splatter

Your inked up sky should be dry by now and ok to put some ink splatter onto it.  Hint:  make sure you protect your work surface or use an old box for this step because the ink splatter will get everywhere!

Take a small fan brush or paint brush, pick up some white ink paint, and flick the paint onto the card panel.  You can make the splatter all different sizes and add as much or little as you want.  After you are satisfied with the splatter, set it aside to dry again.  (Note:  if you don't have white splatter paint, you can add small ink spots using a white acrylic paint marker or white gel pen.)

Step #4 – Highland Cow

Select a cow from the Highland Mini Moos Stamp Set and stamp that using your stamp positioner or stamping blocks in black ink.  Color the cow using your alcohol markers or colored pencils.  After coloring, cut out the image using scissors.

Step #5 – Moon

The Love You To The Moon and Back dies have two moons to choose from.  For this card, I used the full moon die.  Die cut the moon using white cardstock and lightly ink blend gray inks along from one side to the other.  (Note: save the white small inlay circles for another project.)  Next, die cut this same die with the silver glitter cardstock but keep those small glitter circles as you will need them in another step.

Step #6 – Sentiment

The Sentiment Shoppe – Within The Fold: “Highland Mini Moos Sentiments” 6x6 Stamp Set has so many great sentiments but one is perfect for this card – I’m Over The Moo-n for you!

Take a piece of vellum paper, and stamp the sentiment using the clear embossing ink.  (Note: before stamping, you can use anti-static powder to dust on top of the vellum paper so the embossing powder only sticks mainly to the ink.)  Pour the embossing powder on top of your sentiment, pour off the excess and if you see any powder on the vellum where it shouldn’t be, use a small paint brush to remove them.  Heat emboss the embossing powder by moving the heat tool over the powder and also from the back, but try not to keep the heat tool in one place too long so the vellum doesn’t burn or warp.  If it is slightly warped, you can place a paperweight on top for a bit to help it lay flat once the vellum has cooled down.

You can use a shaped die cut, paper trimmer, or scissors to cut the sentiment and set this aside for a later step.

(Note:  Since you may see adhesive through the vellum, you can stamp and heat emboss the sentiment directly onto the card instead.  It’s best to do this before adhering the die cuts onto the card panel.)

Now that everything is ready, let’s assemble the card!

Step #7 – Card Assembly

Tree/Hills:

For the first layer of the hills/trees die cut, lay the die cut with the trees onto the card panel to see where it should be placed.  Once it’s decided, adhere that using liquid adhesive or another preferred adhesive and trim off any excess that overlaps the bottom of the card.  (Note: if you want to place some of the green glitter trees behind some of these trees, do not glue the the trees to the card panel yet.)

Next, adhere the top layer (the one without trees) and trim off any excess that overlaps the bottom of the card.  Since we ink blended the back of this one, it will be a nice offset and variation from the other tree line.

Fill in any areas you would like using the green glitter trees.  I placed them on top or behind the other trees.  At this time you can now adhere the other trees that weren’t glued down yet.

Moon:

Adhere the gray inked moon directly onto the card panel.  Using the White Crystal Dual Ended Embellishment Pick Up & Die Poker Tool  take the small glitter circles from the glitter moon die cut and glue them into their spaces in the moon.

Highland Mini Cow:

Adhere your adorable mini cow onto the card panel where you would like him to be.

Sentiment: (skip this step if you heat embossed the sentiment directly onto the panel)

When adhering the vellum, keep in mind that whatever adhesive you choose to use, it may show through.  I used glue dots for this card and placed them behind the letters and placed it onto the card panel.

Embellishments:

Glue several of the Silver Starlights – Sequins around your card panel using the  White Crystal Dual Ended Embellishment Pick Up & Die Poker Tool.

And now is a good time to take a look at your completed panel to see if you would like to fill in the card with more trees, small flowers, or spots of grass using a green marker.

You can trim the card panel down a little on all sides if you would like a white border when you adhere it to the A2 side folded card base as I did here.

And that completes the card!

I hope you enjoy making this cute card!  It’s a cute way to let someone know you are thinking of them.
