Hello, crafty friends!
Today I’m sharing a Christmas card filled with plenty of sparkle and shine! I used the Layered Christmas Ornaments Dies to create a collection of festive red-and-white ornaments. The bright glitter cardstock really pops against the dark textured background and gives this card a bold, elegant look.
Creating the Background
I began by cutting a panel of black cardstock with the Stitched Rectangle Dies. I then embossed the panel with a Christmas-themed embossing folder to add plenty of texture and interest. I also spritzed it with some shimmer spray.
I adhered the finished panel to a white card base, leaving a narrow white border around the edges.
Making the Ornaments
Next, I used the Layered Christmas Ornaments Dies to cut several different ornament designs from red and white glitter cardstock.
I mixed and matched the decorative layers to create a variety of patterns, including stripes, stars, curved designs, decorative bands, and a simple solid ornament. The layered dies make it easy to create ornaments that coordinate while still giving each one its own distinct look.
I added silver glitter ornament toppers to each design and arranged the ornaments across the card front in a loose Christmas-tree shape. I attached the ornaments with foam adhesive to add dimension.
Using the Extra Die-Cut Pieces
One of my favorite details on this card came from the tiny pieces left behind after die cutting the ornament layers. Instead of setting those glittery dots and stars aside, I scattered the red, silver, and white pieces across the background as coordinating embellishments.
It was a simple way to carry the ornament colors throughout the design while making use of even the smallest die-cut details. The extra sparkle also helps tie the entire card together without adding another product.
I love the contrast between the dark background and the bright red, white, and silver glitter. This card may have a simple color palette, but all that shimmer makes it feel especially festive!
