Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Reindeer Snow Globe Scene

Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Reindeer Snow Globe Scene

Hello crafty friends!

I am back with another Sketchy Sunday with fun products from Kat Scrappiness. Today I used the Reindeer Games stamp set as the focal image for my sketchy scene.

Card Details:

  • Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5" (A2 size)

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

I started by die cutting the base layer of the Winter Wonderland Snow Globe Shaker Craft Dies from a scrap of white cardstock.

Step 2:

Next, I stamped one of the reindeer from the Reindeer Games stamp set on the snow globe using black ink.

Step 3:

I then sketched in my scene using a pencil. I added a snow hill line and some trees on either side of the reindeer.

Step 4:

When I was satisfied with my scene, I traced over the lines with a black fine line marker and erased the pencil lines.

Step 5:

It is now time to color our scene. I used Prismacolor colored pencils. Specific colors are below:

  • Trees: Peacock Green, Grass Green, True Green, Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber
  • Snow: Greyed Lavender and White
  • Sky: Sky Blue Light
  • Reindeer: Jasmine, Cream, Crimson Lake, Terra Cotta, Burnt Ochre, and Black
  • Scarf: Peacock Green, Grass Green, and True Green
  • Mug: Non-Photo Blue and Light Cerulean Blue
  • Candy Cane: Crimson Lake

Step 6:

Next, I die cut the rest of the pieces to make my shaker snow globe using the Winter Wonderland Snow Globe Shaker Craft Dies. For the walls of the shaker, I cut out about 6-7 pieces from white cardstock that would have otherwise gone into the recycling bin. I cut out the sentiment strip from white, the top layer of the frame from blue, and the base from gray.

Step 7:

I then glued the frame pieces together and set them under something heavy to dry flat.

Step 8:

After the glue was dry, I glued the stacked frames to my colored snow globe base.

Step 9:

I then used a mini blending brush and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to add some inking around the edges of the top layer of the frame.

Step 10:

I also used a mini blending brush and Pumice Stone Distress Ink to add inking around the snow globe base.

Step 11:

To stamp my sentiment onto my strip, I used a piece of acetate and a stamp positioner to curve the sentiment "Merry Christmas" from the Reindeer Games Sentiments stamp set.

Step 12:

I then glued the base and sentiment strip to the top frame piece and glued the whole thing to the acetate window.

Step 13:

Next, I filled up my shaker scene. I glued some White AB Solid Confetti Mix randomly to the sky to look like falling snow and then added Blue Fairydust Sequin Mix and Brilliant Sky Blue Confetti Dots Sequins as the shaker fill.

Step 14:

I then glued the top layer in place to seal in the shaker bits.

Step 15:

Next, I wanted to have my snow globe scene extend into the background of my card. I die cut a piece of blue cardstock using the Stitched Fancy Scalloped Rectangle dies to use as my base. I then cut out some trees from an aqua-green cardstock using the Trio of Trees dies and created a snow hill using the A2 Stitched Hills Borders dies.

Step 16:

I added some inking to the background with a mini blending brush and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. For the trees, I used Pine Needles and Cracked Pistachio Distress Inks. Lastly, I added some shading to my snow hill using Milled Lavender Distress Ink.

Step 17:

I glued all of my background elements to the blue base, trimming off the excess of trees.

Step 18:

I then glued the shaker snow globe on the card, making sure to add some shading underneath where the snow globe was sitting in the snow.

To finish the card, I glued the panel to a white A2 card base.
