Spooky season is right around the corner, and I am thrilled to share a brand-new handmade Halloween card featuring some fantastic products from Kat Scrappiness!
If you love vibrant color palettes mixed with classic eerie elements, this project is perfect for your Halloween crafting inspiration. The stark contrast between the bright, glowing background and the bold black silhouettes creates an eye-catching design that pops right off the card base.
Below is a detailed breakdown of the design process, the layout elements, and the specific supplies used to bring this spooky creation to life.
The Tone-on-Tone Stenciled Background
To build a dimension-rich backdrop, I started with an A2-sized white cardstock panel. I blended I blended Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers Distress inks onto the panel to build a vibrant foundation for my background.
Next, using the same ink colors, I stencilled over with the Falling Stars 6x6 stencil to instantly reveal a scattering of tone-on-tone stars across the entire card front. To frame the vibrant colors, I layered this panel onto a piece of black cardstock.
The Whimsical Pumpkin Feature
For the focal point, I stacked several layers of the large pumpkin, cut from the Jack-o'-lantern/Pumpkin Shaker dies and glued them together for instant dimension. To build its unique character, I cut the whimsical eye backings from white cardstock and the mouth from dark grey cardstock. I also offset the main pumpkin over a grey cardstock layer to create a subtle shadow effect underneath. After piecing the face together behind the black frame to capture that goofy, startled expression, I added quick white gel pen dots to the eyes to bring the pumpkin to life!
The Scripted Sentiment & Finishes
The sentiment was cut from the Happy Halloween Word Dies With Shadow using the words without the shadow and adhered it onto the bottom teal portion of the card.
To complete this card, I scattered several Purple Snurple Solid Round Confetti Sequins around the pumpkin and sentiment to pull in a classic third Halloween color. I also added white gel pen highlights to both the pumpkin and sentiment.
But wait, there's a twist! For a bonus card, using the same steps as the first card, I transformed the pumpkin's mouth into a shaker window. The shaker mix inside gives it the ultimate "pumpkin guts" look!
