A Pawsome Way to Brighten Someone’s Day

A Pawsome Way to Brighten Someone’s Day

There’s something about puppies that instantly lifts your mood—the floppy ears, the wagging tails, the pure joy they bring without even trying. This card was inspired by that same feeling: a simple, heartfelt way to brighten someone’s day and remind them just how “pawsome” they are. Whether it’s for a friend who needs a little pick-me-up or just because, this sweet pup-filled design is all about sending smiles in the cutest way possible.

For this card, you will need the following products from Kat Scrappiness:

Build A Pawsome Dog Craft Dies

Pawsome Dogs Sentiments Stamp Set

Zig Zag Border Craft Dies

Double Stitched Circle Craft Dies

Farmhouse 6x6 Paper Pad

Dog Bone Sprinkles

Black Obsidian Jewel Mix

In addition to the above, you will need the following:

Die Cutting Machine

Blue Ink pad

Black Ink pad

Black Cardstock

White Cardstock

Blue Cardstock to match your blue ink pad

Color cardstock for the dogs (gray, tan, brown).  (This is optional as you can die cut the dogs with white cardstock and then color them in using alcohol markers if you prefer.)

A2 side or top folding card base

Blending brushes such as 1/2" Stencil & Ink Soft Blending Brushes, Kat's Crafty Dabbers or Hero Arts Extra Large Ink Blending Brush

Liquid Adhesive

Once you have gathered, everything, let's make this card!

Step #1 - Background panel

From the Farmhouse 6x6 Paper Pad carefully tear out the black and white gingham paper.

You can leave this as is or color it in as I did with my card.  I used a blending brush and a light colored blue ink pad and ink blended over the paper to change the white to blue.  This is a great suggestion for you if you have pattern paper but don't necessarily like the color - try changing it by ink blending over it to soften any whites or just change the look of it for your project needs.

In this picture below, you can see the difference by adding the blue ink.

Trim this panel down to 4 3/16” x 5 7/16" (or just slightly smaller than 4 ¼” by 5 ½”) and set it aside.

Step #2 - White Panel

I placed the curvy die from the Zig Zag Border Craft Dies  onto the right side about a little more than half an inch from the edge of 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of white cardstock and the smallest of the Double Stitched Circle Craft Dies onto the top left corner onto the same cardstock so I can die cut them together.

Take the same circle die, and die cut a circle for the middle right, and the bottom left corner.  Set this aside.

Step #3 - Blue Circles

Take the smallest die and the die just larger than that one and place them inside each other, evenly spaced, onto the blue cardstock similar to the same color for the blue ink blending and run this through your die cutting machine.  (Hint:  I taped the two of them together so I can get the same size for the three circles.)  Repeat this step two more times so you have three circles and set them all aside.

Step #4 - Dogs

The Build A Pawsome Dog Craft Dies set has three different styles of dogs you can make so there's options to customize your card!  I used all three versions for this card.  You can either die cut the dogs using white cardstock and use alcohol markers or ink pads to color the dogs, or use colored cardstock.  For my dogs, I used a process of both.

For the dogs that are white, I added black spots using black alcohol marker for the spots and to color in the two small die cuts (the one on top of his head and his eye) to give the dog the look of a Dalmatian.

For the middle dog, I used color cardstock and white cardstock.  I added brown alcohol marker onto his tail, and large spots on his sides and a lighter brown alcohol marker to add some spots onto his legs and belly area to give this dog the look of a Basset Hound.

For the gray dog at the bottom, I die cut him using gray cardstock and then added some gray alcohol marker on his sides and tail as well as the spot around his left eye for a the look of a Pitbull mix.

This step was fun as there's lots of options depending on which type of dog you are adding to your card.

For their bandanas, I just used red alcohol markers to color them to give them a pop of color.

(Note:  I didn't adhere their heads to the bodies just yet.)

Ok, now that we have all the steps completed, let's put it all together!

Step #5 - Adding the blue circles

Using liquid adhesive, I glued the blue circles onto the white card panel and then trimmed off the excess.

Step #6 - Adding the Dogs

I opted to add the dogs at this time to the circles and white card panel.  It was at this time, I glued the dogs heads to their bodies but at a slight angle for a little more character to them.  This is starting to look so adorable!

Step #7 – Black card panel

Cut a piece of black cardstock to an A2 size (4 ¼” by 5 ½”).

Step #8 - Joining card panels

I adhered the white card panel onto the blue gingham panel using liquid adhesive and then adhered that onto black cardstock using liquid adhesive.

Step #9 – Sentiment

I placed this completed panel into my stamp positioner and chose the sentiment “You’re Pawsome”.  I stamped that a few times using black ink on the right side of the Dalmatian.

Step #10 – Card base

I used an A2 top folding card base for this card and used liquid adhesive to adhere the card panel.

Step #11 – Embellishments

I added three of the Dog Bone Sprinkles to each of the blue circles and added Black Obsidian Jewel Mix to each of the dogs for they eyes.

And that completes the card!
