Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Sending Woodland Happiness

Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Sending Woodland Happiness

Hi crafty friends!

I am back with another Sketchy Sunday using the new Woodland release from Kat Scrappiness.

Card Details:

  • Card size: 4.25" x 5.5" (A2 size)

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

First, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" in size and placed it in my stamp positioner to start stamping my scene. I arranged the owl, deer, beaver, and mushroom from the new Woodland Critters stamp set onto my scene and stamped them down using black ink. I also stamped the sentiment from the Woodland Critters Sentiments stamp set. The sentiment reads "Sending a little happiness your way!"

Step 2:

Next, I created a mask for the beaver and mushroom, fussy cut around them, and placed them using repositionable adhesive. I stamped the stump under the beaver to complete my stamped scene.

Step 3:

Next comes the sketching portion of the card. I knew I needed a tree for my owl's branch to be attached to, so I drew in a large tree trunk. I added a hole in the tree as a home for the owl. At the bottom of the tree, I mimicked the grass around the stump to have it match the stamped image. I then sketched in a horizon line. To finish the sketch, I drew two mushrooms at the bottom of the panel.

Step 4:

After I was satisfied with how my sketch looked, I traced over the lines with a black fine line marker and erased my pencil lines.

Step 5:

It is now time to color the scene. I used my Prismacolor colored pencils to color my card. Specific colors are listed below.

  • Mushrooms: Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, 20% French Grey, 10% French Grey, and White
  • Beaver: Black, Chocolate, Sienna Brown, Burnt Ochre, Mineral Orange, and Goldenrod
  • Beaver Tail, Log, and Stump: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber
  • Deer: 30% French Grey, 20% French Grey, 10% French Grey, Dark Brown, Light Umber, Beige Sienna, and Black
  • Owl: 70% French Grey, 50% French Grey, 30% French Grey, 20% French Grey, 10% French Grey, and Orange
  • Tree Hole: Black, Dark Umber, and Dark Brown
  • Grass: Dark Green, Grass Green, and True Green

Step 6:

I then used a blending brush to add some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink over the panel for my sky. I went right up to/over my colored images, since the ink can be wiped off the pencil due to the waxy nature of the Prismacolor pencils. I then used a Kat's Crafty Dabber to add some darker blue around the edge using Salty Ocean Distress Ink. To finish it, I die cut the panel using the Wonky Wavy Stitched Rectangle dies (currently unavailable).

I glued the whole panel to a white A2 card base to finish off the card.
