Tulip Bouquet Basket Card

Tulip Bouquet Basket Card

Spring is in the air, and that means it’s time for fresh flowers, fluttering butterflies, and a little handmade happiness. Today’s card celebrates the beauty of the season with a sweet tulip bouquet tucked inside a charming wicker basket, while delicate butterflies dance around the design. It’s the perfect way to send a cheerful touch of spring and let someone know you’re thinking of them. Paired with the simple sentiment “Wishing You a Happy Easter,” this card is all about sharing warmth, renewal, and a little bit of crafty joy.

To create this card, you will need the following products from Kat Scrappiness:

Layered Tulip Bouquet Craft Dies

Crafters Essentials Easter Edition Craft Dies

Hippity Hoppity Sentiments Clear Stamps

Kat's Crafty Dabbers

Additional supplies:

Ink pads: two shades of blue; one black

Alcohol ink markers in shades of brown, yellow, red, purple

Cardstock: white, kraft, gold (matte or shiny), gold glitter

          Glitter cardstock:  yellow, purple, pink

Black fine line marker such as a Sharpie or Copic Fine Liner

Liquid Adhesive or adhesive of your choice

Ok, gather your supplies and let’s get started!

Step #1 – Background Panel

Cut a piece of white cardstock to an A2 sized panel (4 ¼” x 5 ½”) and grab your two shades of blue ink pads and one of Kat’s Crafty Dabbers.  Beginning with the lightest shade, dab around the cardstock to fill in the panel.  Don’t worry about rough edges or mistakes!  It will all blend in with the second color!

Once you have completed the panel with the first color, repeat the process with the second shade of blue but concentrate mostly around the edges and the top corners to make them a little darker than the middle and the bottom.  I then went back in with the other shade of blue to fill in any spots I felt were too light.  Set the panel aside once you have finished dabbing the color onto the card.

(Note: You can of course ink blend the two shades for whichever look you prefer!)

Here is what my finished panel looked like when I finished dabbing the color.

Step #2 – Die Cutting

From the Crafters Essentials Easter Edition, die cut the basket with Kraft cardstock and the two butterflies in glitter cardstock (pink, yellow, purple each).

From the Layered Tulip Bouquet Dies, die cut the stems/leaves and tulips dies with white cardstock (or colored if you prefer).  (Note: I die cut three of the stems/leaves and die cut the tulips six times.)  Also from this set, die cut the ribbon twice, once with gold glitter cardstock and once with gold cardstock.  Save a small piece of the gold cardstock to put on the middle of the ribbon so it gives the appearance that the two are tied together.

Set all of these aside except for the basket which we will do in the next step.

Step #3 – Basket

(Note: I ended up die cutting another basket using white cardstock and trimmed off the top so I can use that to make the lines on the basket but you can use anything that would give you a curve to trace the line.  I put a pencil line on this picture so you can see where I cut them apart.)

Starting at the bottom, I traced along bottom lip first using the black marker.  Next, I marked with pencil, small lines of where I wanted the next row to go on the basket.

I then finished tracing the other rows.

Next, using a regular ruler, I put the vertical lines into the rows, staggering them as evenly as I could.

Now that you have the rows completed, it’s time to color the basket.  Using your shades of brown markers, color in the whole basket.  (Note: I showed this technique in a reel for a pirate themed card.)  I like the look of the dark to light brown as it provided shading and dimension to the basket.  Set the basket aside when you are done and move onto the next step.

(Note: If you want to skip this process, you can ink blend the basket using shades of brown ink pads and a blending brush.)

Step #4 – Coloring the tulips

(Note:  You can use colored cardstock or ink pads as opposed to using alcohol markers as I did for this step.)

Each tulip bouquet consists of: one green stem/leaves die, and six colored tulips.  I colored the stems and leaves in shades of green alcohol markers.  I then colored each of the tulips (top layer and bottom layer) with the lighter shade of color first, then followed that with a darker shade by flicking the marker from the bottom towards the center.

I then glued the top layer of the tulip to the bottom layer of the tulip and then glued each onto the green stems.

Step #5 – Butterflies

I used the black marker to fill in the butterflies’ bodies and also to add little black dots on the wings of the larger butterflies and set them aside so the black marker had time to dry.

Step #6 – Bow

I glued the glitter bow die cut on top of the gold die cut and put a paperweight on top so the glue can adhere.  I then cut a small piece of gold cardstock the approximately the same width/height as the middle of the bow and adhered that to the center of the bows.  I put the paperweight back on to let it sit for a bit as I completed the rest of the steps.

Step #7 - Combine the Basket and Tulips

I took all three finished bouquets and layered them together and inserted them into the opening of the basket.

I adjusted them to make sure they filled in the basket including behind and around the handle.  After I liked how they looked, I turned the basket over and taped down the tulips to the back of the basket to secure them until I was ready to glue them together.  I then glued the basket onto the blue background panel.

Step #8 – Sentiment

Using your stamping platform, or acrylic block, stamp the sentiment using black ink onto the background panel.  I used the “Wishing You A” and “Happy Easter” stamps from the Hippity Hoppity Sentiments stamp set above one another.

Step #9 – Adding butterflies and bow

I bent in the wings just a little and applied liquid adhesive to the body of the butterfly and placed them on the background panel and also on the basket and tulips so the butterflies acts as embellishments for the card.  Next, I added liquid adhesive to the back of the bow and added that to the basket.

Finally, I adhered the whole panel to an A2 sized top folding note card.

And that completes the card!

I hope you enjoyed this cheerful card today and I hope this inspires you to make a bunch of tulip bouquets!
