Halloween is the perfect time to play with deep, eerie color palettes and fun background techniques. For this card, I combined an embossing resist with seamless ink blending to create a glowing, bat-filled night sky.
To kick off this card, I secured the Hats & Bats 6x6 stencil over a white cardstock panel. Using a blending tool, I inked up only the bats using sticky VersaMark ink and then embossed with clear embossing powder. This allowed the clean white cardstock underneath to still show through, creating a perfect resist barrier for the upcoming ink layers.
Next came the fun part—building the glowing background! I started right in the center of the card with Wilted Violet Distress Ink, blending it outwards in a circular motion. From there, I transitioned into Villainous Potion Distress Ink toward the edges. To really emphasize that spooky night-sky vignette, I framed the outermost edges heavily with Black Soot Distress Ink, leaving the center bright and glowing.
Once finished, I took a dry cloth and gently wiped over the embossed areas to remove any pooled ink, making the clear embossed bats cleanly pop out on the background.
To make the sky feel full and dynamic, I laid the Hats & Bats 6x6 stencil back over my dry, ink-blended panel. This time, I used a blending brush to stencil a handful of new bats in black around the card. Layering these crisp black bats over the purple sky adds incredible depth to the scene!
To complete the card, I die-cut the bold Happy Halloween Word dies with Shadow sentiment. I cut the shadow layer out of solid black cardstock and the script sentiment out of a vibrant neon green cardstock. Adhering the green sentiment directly over the black shadow layer creates an eye-catching contrast that perfectly balances out the dark background!
