Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Summer Gnome Birthday!

Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Summer Gnome Birthday!

Hello crafty friends!

I am back with another Sketchy Sunday with fun products from Kat Scrappiness. Today I used the Summer Gnome stamp set as the focal image for my scene.

Card Details:

  • Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5" (A2 size)
  • Colored Panel: 4" x 5.25"

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

First, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" in size. I then stamped the gnome from the Summer Gnome stamp set in the bottom right corner with black ink.

Step 2:

Next, I began sketching my scene with a pencil. I drew a wiggly line for the sand and added some rocks/pebbles. I then used a ruler to help me draw a volleyball net above it. On a scrap of white cardstock, I also sketched a beach ball.

Step 3:

When I was satisfied with my sketch, I traced over the lines with a black fine line marker and then erased the pencil lines.

Step 4:

It is now time to color our scene. I used Prismacolor colored pencils. Specific colors are listed below:

  • Net: Indigo Blue, Cerulean Blue, and True Blue
  • Sand/Rocks: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, Light Umber, Sienna Brown, Mineral Orange, Goldenrod, and Sand
  • Gnome: Burnt Ochre, Nectar, Peach, Salmon Pink. Light Peach, 30% Warm Grey, 20% Warm Grey, 10% Warm Grey, White, Dark Green, Apple Green, and Spring Green
  • Ball: Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, Cadmium Orange Hue, Orange, Yellowed Orange, Sunburst Yellow, Canary Yellow, Deco Yellow, Dark Green, Apple Green, Spring Green, Indigo Blue, Cerulean Blue, True Blue, Dioxazine Purple Hue, Violet, and Lilac

Step 5:

Next, I trimmed the panel to 4" x 5.25" in size. I then used a mini blending brush and Antique Linen Distress Ink to add some sandy color right above the sand line and below the net. I used a large blending brush and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to ink up the sky. I also trimmed out the beach ball using my scissors

Step 6:

For my sentiment, I used the Sentiment Sampler stamp set. I chose the sentiment that reads "Wishing you joy on your birthday!"

Step 7:

I wanted to make this card interactive. I used a mini action wobble to attach the beach ball in front of the net so it looks like the gnome is on the beach playing volleyball. I love that the action wobbles make it look like the ball is moving through the air.

To finish the card, I glued the panel to an A2 card base made with Kat's Color Studio Premium Cardstock in the color Granny Apple.
