Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! You're Turtley Awesome!

Hello crafty friends!

I am back with another Sketchy Sunday with fun products from Kat Scrappiness. Today I used the Friends Under the Sea stamp set for my focal images for this card.

Card Details:

  • Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5" (A2 size)
  • Colored Panel: 4" x 5.25"

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

First, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" in size. I then stamped the turtle and seal from the Friends Under the Sea set using black ink.

Step 2:

I then began sketching in my scene with a pencil. I started by drawing a sand line behind my critters. At this point, I decided I wanted to use some of the shells, so I stamped them in the sand. I sketched rocks, coral, and seaweed as well. I then stamped "You're Turtley Awesome!" from the Friends Under the Sea set and added some of the fish.

Step 3:

When I was satisfied with my sketch, I traced over the lines with a black fine line marker and erased the pencil lines.

Step 4:

It is now time to color the scene. I used Prismacolor colored pencils. Specific colors are below:

  • Turtle: Cobalt Turquoise, Aquamarine, Light Aqua, Peacock Green, Parrot Green, and True Green
  • Seaweed: Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, and True Green
  • Seal: Black, 90% French Grey, 70% French Grey, 50% French Grey, and 30% French Grey
  • Coral: Crimson Lake, Carmine Red, and Pale Vermilion
  • Sand: Sienna Brown, Mineral Orange, Goldenrod, and Sand
  • Rocks/Sand Texture: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber
  • Seashells: Clay Rose, Pink Rose, Deco Peach, Peach, Salmon Pink, and Light Peach
  • Fish: Crimson Lake, Carmine Red, Pale Vermilion, Cobalt Turquoise, Aquamarine, Light Aqua, Peacock Green, Parrot Green, and True Green

Step 5:

I then trimmed the panel to 4" x 5.25" in size. I used blending brushes and Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink to add water to my scene, keeping the dark color to the left and right to make it look like light was filtering down into my scene. I also stamped some fish silhouette in the background using a stamp from my stash.

Step 6:

To finish my sentiment, I die cut the word "thanks" from white cardstock using the Thanks Shadow Sentiment Craft Dies. I glued this above my stamped sentiment.

To finish the card, I glued my colored panel to a white A2 card base.
