Special Delivery: Birthday Creativity Inside!

Hello Crafty Friends!

One big announcement from Kat Scrappiness!  Mixed Media supplies are currently on sale for 30% off!  Be sure to use the code MIXEDMEDIA at checkout for the discount.  I highly recommend the Glitter Mousse that I used for the card below.  It applies nicely to card stock, it dries quickly, and it comes in many colors!

Now onto today’s card!

Today's birthday card is packed with everything a crafty heart could want—supplies, sparkle, and plenty of creative inspiration. I created a festive background with a confetti stencil and silver glitter mousse, then filled a crafty shipping box with colorful tools and supplies ready for their next project. Finished with a bold birthday greeting and a touch of glitter, this card is the perfect way to send birthday wishes to the crafty friend in your life.

To create this card, you will need the following products from Kat Scrappiness:

Confetti Party 6x6 Stencil

Silver Glitter Mousse

Stitched Postage Stamp Edge Rectangle Craft Dies

Bow-tiful Happy Birthday Sentiment and Shadow Dies

3D Square Box Craft Die

Crafters Gonna Craft Clear Stamp Set

Kat's Color Studio - Premium Cardstock - Smooth Bright White 120lb

Kat’s Color Studio - Premium Cardstock – Ocean Mist color

In addition, you will need the following supplies:

Stamping platform or stamping block

Black Ink pad for stamping and Brown Ink pad for the 3d boxes such as Catherine Pooler Designs Premium Dye Ink

Kat’s Crafty Dabbers or a blending brush

Black Cardstock

Glitter Cardstock

Alcohol Markers or Colored Pencils

Shredded paper or something similar looking to packing material

Liquid Adhesive

Palette Knife

Low tack tape or Washi tape

Die Cutting Machine

Scissors

After you have gathered all the supplies, let’s begin the fun!

Step #1 – Background panel

Using your die cutting machine and the largest die from the Stitched Postage Stamp Edge Rectangle Craft Dies, die cut a piece of White Cardstock.  Adhere this piece to your work surface using the low tack tape along the edge of the stitches.

Next, lay the stencil on top and adhere to your work surface with the low tack tape.

Using the palette knife, apply a small amount of the Silver Glitter Mousse and evenly spread that over the stencil using your palette knife.  Repeat as necessary so that the panel is filled in.

When filled in, carefully remove the tape and stencil but do your best not to move the stencil so the mousse doesn’t smudge.  Give the stencil a good wash in the sink with a little dish soap so the mousse doesn’t stick permanently onto the stencil.

Next, slowly remove the tape from the panel so it doesn’t tear and set it aside to dry.  This mousse dries quickly so it should be dry when we are ready to use it later when we assemble the card.

Step #2 – Craft Goodies

Using black ink pad and either your stamp positioner or stamping block, stamp the pencil, scissors, marker, and glue bottle from the Crafters Gonna Craft Clear Stamp Set onto white cardstock.  Color in the images either with alcohol markers or colored pencils.  You can make as many as you want to stuff the box full of the goodies.  I first only had one pencil but eventually added another pencil when I was assembling the box.  When you are finished coloring, cut them out using your scissors and set them aside.  You can step up the images by adding some Glossy Accents to the scissor handles, the silver part of the pencils and the glue bottle.

Step #3 – 3D Box

Die cut the box pieces with a light tan or Kraft cardstock.  Using a blending brush or Kat’s Crafty Dabbers and a brown ink pad, blend the ink onto the two box sides.  Fold down the flaps and ink blend onto the fold part as well.

From the Crafters Gonna Craft Clear Stamp Set, stamp “Get Creative” onto one box side and “Eat Sleep Craft” onto the other box side.  Select one of the sequin stamps from the same set and stamp above the “Get Creative” three times.  Of course you can use embellishments or colorful sequins instead of using the stamp!

Step #4 – Sentiment

Using the Bow-tiful Happy Birthday Sentiment and Shadow Dies, die cut the Happy Birthday using black cardstock and the shadow die with the Ocean Mist cardstock.

Die cut the small bow using silver glitter cardstock.

I found some left over pink and yellow Easter basket filler and grabbed some to stuff inside the 3d box.  If you don’t have any of that laying around, you can make your own using paper and scissors or a paper shredder and make any color filler you want!

Now that all the steps are finished, let’s assemble the card!

Step #5 – Panel Assembly

Glue the Happy Birthday die cut to the shadow layer followed by the glitter bow.  Add liquid adhesive to the back of this and adhere it to the card panel.  The bow on this card is hanging off a little so I will use a larger envelope.  Lay something on top so it adheres well since the panel has texture on it due to the glitter mousse.

To assemble the box, glue only the sides and the bottom of the box sides so that the top is open to insert the craft goodies, and adhere them onto to the 3d box.  Fold down the lids with a bone folder or your finger so that it folds down a little.

Add some of the pink and yellow paper filler into the box but do not add glue yet.

Next, insert your craft goodies and some more filler.  After you like how the goodies are arranged, add some liquid adhesive inside the box in and around the goodies so that everything adheres.

Then, add some liquid adhesive behind the box and place that onto the card panel.  Place a paperweight on top and let this dry for a bit while you complete the final step.

Step #6 – Card base

Cut a piece of Ocean Mist cardstock to either a top folding or side folding card base.

Add liquid adhesive behind the card panel and adhere this to the card base.

And that completes the card!

I hope you enjoy making this fun card!  What a great card to give to your crafty friends!
