Sketchy Sundays with Kelsey! Life is Better with Friends Like You!

Hello crafty friends!

I am back with another Sketchy Sunday with fun products from Kat Scrappiness. Today I used the Highland Mini Moos and Woodland Critters stamp sets as my main focus of the card.

Card Details:

  • Card Size: 4.25" x 5.5" (A2 size)
  • Colored Panel: 4" x 5.25"

Step-by-Step Tutorial:

Step 1:

First, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.25" x 5.5" in size. I then stamped the cow image from the Highland Mini Moos stamp set in the bottom center of the panel. I also stamped the sentiment from the Highland Mini Moos Sentiments stamp set. The sentiment reads "Life is better with friends like you in the herd!"

Step 2:

I then stamped the cow on a sticky note to create a mask. I fussy cut the mask with my scissors and then used repositionable adhesive to place it on my card panel.

Step 3:

Next, I used my stamp positioner to stamp the bear and squirrel from the Woodland Critters stamp set to either side of the cow.

Step 4:

I then sketched my scene using a pencil. I added a tree, some shrubs, and a mushroom to my panel. At this point, I realized that my cow appeared to be standing on the bear's foot, so I stamped some mushrooms from the Woodland Critters set onto a scrap of white cardstock to use to hide my mistake.

Step 5:

When I was satisfied with my scene, I traced over the lines with a black fine line marker and then erased the pencil lines.

Step 6:

It is now time to color my scene. I used Prismacolor colored pencils. Specific colors are below:

  • Bear: Black, 90% French Grey, 70% French Grey, 50% French Grey, 30% French Grey, and 20% French Grey
  • Squirrel: Sepia, Sandbar Brown, Beige Sienna, 20% French Grey, 10% French Grey, White, Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber
  • Cow: Dark Brown, Sienna Brown, Goldenrod, Yellow Ochre, Sand, Pomegranate, Process Red, Hot Pink, Peacock Green, Grass Green, True Green, Dark Green, Apple Green, and Spring Green
  • Mushrooms: Crimson Lake, Crimson Red, Carmine Red, 20% French Grey, 10% French Grey, and White
  • Grass: Dark Green, Apple Green, Spring Green, and Chartreuse
  • Tree Trunk: Dark Umber, Dark Brown, and Light Umber
  • Tree Leaves: Peacock Green, Grass Green, and True Green
  • Shrubs: Cobalt Turquoise, Peacock Green, and Grass Green

Step 7:

I then trimmed the panel to 4" x 5.25" and used a blending brush and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to add some blue to my sky.

Step 8:

I then fussy cut around the mushrooms and glued them to my panel, adding a shadow underneath with the dark green pencil.

To finish the card, I glued my colored panel to a white A2 card base.
